Know Thyself....
Secret of Happiness I believe is to get out of the "Herd mentality" and discover whatever that is which makes you truely happy. Forget society, forget parents, forget everything else. Why isn't the society & upbringing of a child structured to realize his/her true innate potential ?
Corporate World
In the corporate world to get the role you desire you have to excel in your current role - even if the competencies for both the roles are totally different. Now this doesn't make sense to me. Unless one has the talent of a Da Vinci or Michalengelo who excelled in multiple professions, most people can be instinctively good at only a few things. Sure you can become a Nuclear Scientist if you worked hard for some 20+ years but then that's not how most people want to spend their prime years of their life right ? You want to work on things that interest you naturally and by doing which you can make a decent living.
Indians & Programming
At this moment I wonder to myself ... how on earth can one do programming after say the initial couple of years ? I loved programming in college and during the early periods of my career (say for about 2 years). That's about it. Programming is a very isolating experience like say painting. It's best done by yourself on whatever task you wish to program just like a painter decides what he wants to paint and starts painting. But imagine a painter having to work with 6 other painters to do a painting, having to attend innumerable meetings, conference calls etc.. to finish his painting ? Does this even make sense remotely ? But that's what a programmer/developer is expected to do in the corporate world. You can't choose your problems to solve in the first place and secondly you have to work with 10 other people to make your work look good. Why would anyone want to work on something like this ? It sounds like a natural disaster waiting to happen. For me Programming is something I would like to do as a hobby. Period. Besides you can only write only so many Brilliant programs just as an artist can come up with 1 or 2 masterpieces in his entire life. To me there are innumerable interesting things to pursue than solve the same problems again & again.
Now seriously .. how the #$%@ do I outsource my job ... ???
